“Edeta” is the ancient name for the Roman town located in what is now known as Llíria, Valencia, Spain, the home of the Festival. Founded in the 2nd century BC, it was strategically located on the river Turia and known for its wine and olive oil production. Edeta flourished during the Roman period but was largely abandoned in the 3rd century AD.

Today, the archaeological site of Edeta / Llíria is open to visitors, displaying the remains of Roman villas, public buildings, and artifacts from the Roman period.

Music is an essential part of the Llirian identity and the feature for which the city is nationally and internationally recognized. This amazing little town is one of Spain’s municipalities with the highest percentage of citizens with musical studies.  It is fitting to have the UNESCO Creative City of Music designation.
