Mr. Krohn serves as the Directory of Orchestras for Ann Arbor Huron High School, where he conducts the Symphony Orchestra, Concert Orchestra, and Philharmonic Orchestra, advises the Chamber Orchestra, assists with the Middle School Orchestra Programs and teaches beginning strings. Mr. Krohn has also been the Music Director and Conductor of the Mason Symphony (MI) for five seasons and the Arbor Brass Choir for four. Mr. Krohn has served on the faculties of the Michigan All-State Program at Interlochen, the Rudolf Steiner High School in Ann Arbor, and Saline High School, as well as on the staff for the University of Michigan Marching Band, and as assistant director of the University of Michigan Campus Bands.
Originally from Lewisburg, PA, Mr. Krohn began studying the violin at age three and continues to enjoy performing on his first instrument and has appeared with folk/world music groups Fonn Mor, Killarney Broadcast and the Global Mission Orchestra. As a trumpet player, Mr. Krohn is currently the Principal Trumpet with the Birmingham-Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra and has performed with orchestras throughout southeast Michigan. Mr. Krohn holds degrees in Trumpet Performance, Music Education, and Conducting from the University of Michigan where he was a student of William Lucas and Michael Haithcock and has also studied with Marianne Ploger, Bob Culver, Kenneth Kiesler, Jerry Blackstone, H. Robert Reynolds and Steven Davis.
Mr. Krohn resides in Ann Arbor with his wonderful wife Kelly and enjoys Michigan Football, yoga, running, playing cards, cooking and spending time with friends and family.
Robert Ash is a member of the Ann Arbor Huron High School Music Department where he serves as the Director of Bands. Mr. Ash conducts the Huron Symphony Band, Concert Band Green, the Rhythm Rat Marching Band, and the Rhythm Rat Jazz Orchestra, and co-directs Concert Band Gold and Varsity Band.
An alumnus of Central Michigan University, Mr. Ash earned bachelors’ degrees in Music Education and Music Theory and Composition while studying saxophone with Prof. John Nichol, composition with Dr. David Gillingham, and conducting with Prof. John Williamson, with his work at CMU culminating in the prestigious Presser Scholarship. He was awarded a master’s degree in Music Composition from The Florida State University where he studied with renowned composers Dr. Ladislav Kubik and Pulitzer Prize winner Dr. Ellen Zwillich. His continued conducting studies include acceptance to the prestigious Michigan State University and the University of Michigan Conducting Symposiums where he has had the honor of working with Dr. Kevin Sedetole, Prof. Jerry Junkin, Dr. Kevin Noe, Prof. Michael Haithcock, and Prof. Craig Kirchhoff
Mr. Ash is proud to serve as an active member of the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association as the District XII Vice President of Band and Orchestra Festival as well as the State Committee Chair for Music Commissioning. He is also an active member of the American School Band Director’s Association. Mr. Ash resides in Ann Arbor with his incredibly supportive wife Camille and son Xander.
