The Rock Infused Orchestra is a dynamic musical string ensemble that blends the raw energy of rock music with the sophistication of orchestral string instruments and arrangements. This year’s RIO tour to Spain includes over 140 young musicians playing violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar and percussion.
RIO was founded in 1999 by Andrew Hutchinson. An Oshkosh WI native, Andy had a passion for music education and wanted to build an orchestra of young players with a mission to create an innovative sound that appeals to a diverse audience, merging genres in a way that captivates both rock enthusiasts and classical music lovers. In the beginning, the group consisted of about 5 members who practiced in a small back room at a local music store and held a small concerts in the community. Since that time, the group has continued to grow.
The orchestra’s repertoire features a unique selection of rock classics reimagined for orchestral performance, showcasing the versatility of the musicians on stage. In addition to performing well-known rock hits, the orchestra also collaborates with professional musicians, producers, and composers, pushing the boundaries of traditional orchestral music.
