The Wausau Schools Silver Strings are excited to announce their international tour to Spain in June of 2024. The group comprises of thirteen students from both Wausau West High School and Wausau East High School from the heart of the United States: Wausau, Wisconsin. They meet together on Sunday evenings with their director, Kirsten Hornby.
They showcase and perform many genres including classical to world to popular song. With a commitment to excellence and a shared love for their musical craft, the group loves to engage audiences with soulful performances, demonstrating the power of collaboration, creativity, and the timeless beauty of iconic music. They are thrilled to be collaborating and sharing the stage alongside the musicians from the prestigious Musica Temprana de Valencia here in Spain!
DIRECTOR
Kirsten Hornby
Director of Orchestras
Kirsten Hornby is in her twenty-seventh year teaching Orchestra at Wausau East and West High Schools in Wausau, Wisconsin. In addition she is the Instructor of Double Bass and String Camp Director for the Wausau Conservatory of Music, where she has taught since 1997. She holds a BM with an emphasis in String Pedagogy from Lawrence University and a MM from Northwestern University (Evanston, IL) with emphasis in Instrumental Conducting and String Pedagogy.
In her free time, she works to support immigrant families with members of her church. She also strives to increase awareness of childhood cancer and raises funds for causes close to heart including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and The Cure Starts Now in memory of her beloved daughter Claire.
